The exquisite music from Lincoln Center’s critically acclaimed production of Tom Stoppard’s trilogy The Coast of Utopia. The trilogy consists of: Part One – Voyage, Part Two – Shipwreck, and Part Three – Salvage. “This ambitious trilogy about a group of politically radical 19th-Century Russian friends from landed families takes place between 1833 and 1868 and in several locales, with sudden chronological shifts and crisscrossing narrative threads. The music helps bridge the leaps and bounds in Mr. Stoppard’s epic.” (Anthony Tommasini, New York Times).

Billy Crudup, Richard Easton, Jennifer Ehle, Josh Hamilton, David Harbour, Jason Butler Harner, Ethan Hawke, Amy Irving, Brian F. O’Byrne and Martha Plimpton headed the cast of 44 in the trilogy, which ran from November of 2006 through May 2007.

In the words of the show’s director, Jack O’Brien, “Mark Bennet proves that he has no rivals in the world of theatre composition: the variety, the simplicity, the range of emotional support that he has given The Coast of Utopia is not just epic, it’s monumental.  That is so perfectly brings our plays to their emotional boil is pure perfection. That the music, in this CD, stands alone is, in my estimation, a genuine miracle.”

"It takes particular skill to come up with short extracts of music that enhance without overwhelming the drama. But even in passages of a minute or less, Mr. Bennett's keen ear for harmony and color comes through over and over in 'Utopia.'" - Anthony Tommasini, The New York Times
